ubuntu login (motd) is too verbose

My current ubuntu server greets me like this :

Quite frankly

  • I know where to find help
    sudo chmod -x /etc/update-motd.d/10-help-text

  • My system state is fine (otherwise zabbix would have told me, FIXME : link to the future zabbix tag).
    sudo chmod -x /etc/update-motd.d/50-landscape-sysinfo

  • I know about meltdown and spectre, since I’m a grumpy reader of LWN!
    sudo chmod -x /etc/update-motd.d/50-motd-news

  • I won’t buy support for my home server:
    sudo chmod -x /etc/update-motd.d/80-livepatch
